Magnetite

Magnetite is a naturally occurring mineral with magnetic properties. It is composed of iron oxide (Fe3O4) and is also known as lodestone or magnetic iron ore. Magnetite has numerous uses in industry, such as as an abrasive, filter medium, and for the extraction of iron ore. It is also used in electronics and telecommunications, due to its ability to hold a magnetic field. Additionally, magnetite is often used in ornamental jewelry and as a protective talisman, due to its magnetic properties.

Magnetite beneficiation is the process of separating magnetite from other minerals in the rock. The process typically involves crushing and grinding the ore, separating the magnetic particles using a magnetic separator or high-intensity magnetic field, and then further processing the material with gravity or flotation separators. Beneficiating magnetite ore can yield a high-grade iron concentrate, as well as non-magnetic sands which are removed as waste. Additionally, advanced technology can be used to recover even finer particles of magnetite, increasing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the beneficiation process.

Magnetite ore is mined in many countries around the world, including Australia, Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa, and the United States. Major suppliers of magnetite ore include Australia, China, and Brazil, with Australia being the largest producer. Other countries that produce small amounts of magnetite ore include Mexico, Peru, and Canada.

Price of Magnetite

The price of magnetite ore per ton can vary depending on the market demand and supply conditions. It can also depend on the iron content, with higher iron content ores generally commanding a higher price. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the price of magnetite ore per ton ranged from approximately $70 to $200 USD. However, it’s important to note that these prices are subject to change and fluctuations in the market.
